Crutches 4 Kids is joining forces with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and the HSS Rehabilitation Network (a hospital-based network of 130 preferred rehabilitation providers) to collect crutches for children in need around the world.
On May 1st the trio are launching a pilot-program to collect crutches at eight physical therapy offices in NYC. This brings the total number of Crutches 4 Kids crutch recycling drop-off locations around NYC to 19 sites (check out other locations here)! Our aim is to eventually make the recycling program available to all providers in the network interested in participating.
There is a large demand for crutches in underserved communities all over the world, such as Ghana, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Syria, Iraq, Armenia, and Afghanistan to name a few. By giving the world’s most disadvantaged children the equipment they need to be able to walk, we enable them to go to school, play with their friends, and participate more fully in their family and communal lives.
Many thanks again to East Coast Orthotics and Prosthetics to making this expanded collection effort a reality by generously offering to collect the crutches from each collection site! Crutches 4 Kids relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers who have a passion for helping those in need, and East Coast and HSS have been invaluable partners from day one! We welcome the addition of the following HSS Rehabilitation Network providers to the volunteer network that makes our collection efforts possible: Back to Sports Physical Therapy, Grand Central Physical & Hand Therapy Center, Professional Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy, EMH Physical Therapy, Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation PT, Manhattan Sports and Manual PT, Brill Physical Therapy, and Shepard Physical Therapy.
